WAR MACHINES OF LOVE
After a number of years spent guitar-slinging with various post-punk rock stalwarts (New Model Army, Spear of Destiny, Sex Gang Children, etc.) Adrian Portas felt that it was high time he unlocked the dungeon and unleashed the monster that is War Machines of Love on an unsuspecting and ill prepared world. Quickly recruiting legendary record producer Chris Kimsey (of Rolling Stones fame) the band set about recording their debut album ‘Heaven Sent’ for the Deluxe Label. After a seeming eternity trapped in the Stalinist Gulag that is Mr Kimsey’s Sonic Detention Centre recording was completed and the band was released on parole in the summer of 2006 with instruction to demolish a number of venues in the South of England and generally irritate New Age festival goers. A task at which they excelled. The debut download single ‘Submarine’ was released on October 30th 2006 backed by ‘Mobile Home’ and ‘Vultures of the Soul’( the latter featuring vocal performances by Chris Kimsey, Andi Sex Gang and Kim Mcauliffe of NWOBHM legends Girlschool) and the band launched the release as Special guests of The Saints at London’s Borderline. War Machines of Love were then invited to open for The Brian James Gang on their UK tour in February 2007. Friday 2nd Feb. Manchester Academy The band were also invited to open for The Adverts at their sold out 30th Anniversary show at the 100 Club on April 5th followed by an enthusiastically received performance in front of a large festival crowd at the Beautiful Days festival on August 19th.
